Jefferson County

 

  Home of Clifty Falls State Park, and with Switzerland County, Splinter Ridge Fish and Wildlife Area. Clifty Falls is just a great state park. The hiking and scenery are worth a special trip. Nearby Madison is an old riverboat town on the Ohio, and has some features of historical interest. I mention Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge because some usable portions are in the county - in fact, most of it is in Jefferson County, but the main public use area, besides some scattered hunting sites, is not.
